What it is
Omarchy takes a bare Arch Linux install and turns it into a full, keyboard-driven desktop: windows tile themselves, everything opens from a launcher, and one command switches the theme across the bar, terminal, editor and wallpaper. The defaults are strong. My own config lives in a few small override files that load on top of them, so updates keep improving the base without overwriting my changes.
Themes
One of Omarchy's built-in themes: pure greyscale, light mode, where even "red" is just a dark grey.
A dark theme generated with Aether from a wallpaper I found on Wallhaven: near-black brown, muted rust tones and a cold blue-grey accent.
My tweaks
- Idle Suspend plugin: the built-in idle service handles the screensaver (15 min) and the lock (30 min). I wrote a small Quickshell plugin,
dqsis.idle-suspend, that adds a third step and suspends the laptop after 45 minutes. It respects idle inhibitors and the Stay Awake toggle. - Bar layout: menu and workspaces on the left; the clock in the centre, flanked by indicators, keyboard layout, weather and the update check; tray, agents, Bluetooth, network, audio, monitor and power on the right.
- Clock: shows the weekday and the time (
dddd HH:mm). Its alternate view shows the date with the week number (d MMMM 'W'ww yyyy). - Two screens: the laptop panel at 1.25× scale and a 34-inch 3440×1440 ultrawide over HDMI.
