What it does
Every beach in southern Evia answers to the wind differently. A southerly that churns up the water at Figia can leave Kallianou glassy, and a meltemi from the north does the opposite. Locals carry that map in their heads; this page writes it down and pairs it with the day's forecast.
- Today's wind: current speed, direction and gusts, with Beaufort readings and a compass arrow.
- Home verdict: whether to swim right at Figia or drive somewhere calmer, and how far.
- Ranked list: ten favourite beaches sorted from calmest to choppiest, each with a note on why.
- Map: a hand-drawn coastline of the Karystia peninsula with every beach marked.
How it ranks
Each beach carries three numbers from local knowledge: the wind direction that hits it head-on, how sheltered it is (0 to 1), and — for Great Sand and Zastani — an extra penalty for the northerly funnel the kite-surfers love. The daytime average wind (08:00–20:00) is scored against each beach: onshore wind counts in full, offshore barely at all, and shelter damps the rest. Lowest score wins.
